Went down to the plot today, we'd had a frost overnight, think it's done for our Cauliflowers! :(

It's very boggy too, due to all the rain, just hope we don't have a particularly bad winter!

Finally got down to the plots today. Ground slightly frozen, but managed to build a 7x4 ft raised bed. Then put in manure and soil. Also put down weedsupressant fabric on two of the paths.

I planted 20 Aquadulce Claudia Broad Bean plants that I started off under cover.
The jackdaws took my first planting, the mice took my 2nd sowing.
3rd time ???

Too much snow on mine to do anything except spot the footprints and guess the animal.

All that snow on my last post has turned into water, I forgot it would have to go somewhere.

I  went down to mark out a few more beds, but my measuring plank floated off.

So I did some air measuring and guess that I need 64 feet of scaffolding plank if I do four 4x4 single depth. At £3 per 13ft plank its erm.. I've got all winter to work it out.

Retrieved a celeriac from the waters, one good thing about the water is that it was easy to rinse soil off the roots!  Soup tomorrow.

Well done you for looking on the brighter side... "easy to rinse off"

It amazes me what a hardy optimistic group gardeners are. I guess it's a matter of having to be.  ;)

Called in to the plot today, just to cut down the Raspberry's and the Asparagus. If it stays dry for a week or so it might even be possible to get on with the diggin ;)
Optimism probably a gardeners best tool.

Digging! That's what I must do... I made a good start but would be much happier if it was done and tidy.

Today's plan was to vanish to the plot and let my sister take the strain for a few hours... but it was very grey and looked like rain so off "we" went to buy paint and new lights and...lunch for my son. I should have stayed at home and slept instead.

"We" came home with an artificial tree (as well as other things we apparently needed). I'm told the tree will be good value eventually but it won't smell as nice when I put it through the shredder will it!

Picked a carrier bag of kale, and dug up 4 parsnips and 8 leeks. Made shelves and benches in my shed from skip scavenged wood. Lovely day!

Nothing on the plot for me but I wrote a cheque to pay for next year's lottie rent.

They've got it wrong again. I have a plot and a half not two as stated in the bill. I also think I've been charged for just one rather than 11/2. This year I'll simply pay the bill and not bother to write as I have done for the last 4 years.

Hoped to go and dig up leeks and parsnips today. Not looking good as temp is not getting above 2 degrees all day. Still, will go anyway and have a look.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

I received a trailer full of horse manure, carried it up my almost vertical plot and managed to fill my compost pile with some of it. (really wanted to dig a bean trench and turn over some plots but the ground is frozen solid)  :(
