finally managed to get to the plot, between work, chemotherapy and sorting the garden, what fine days we have had I havent been available, so its been a few weeks since I managed to get to the plot. oh boy 3 hours and I managed to get the peas weeded, clear the old chard, weed under one apple tree and get some tidying done, there are strawberries to pick in the next couple of days (the weeds there are nearly 2ft tall) ho hum - weather permitting more time at the plot this week.

Had one of those days, were i looked at the plot and thought why am i doing this.  The slugs are having a field day with my pumkins, runners and french beans.  The weeds are growing faster than i can pull them and several surrounding plots seem to be complety abandoned.  I am going to have to shake up the committee!!

However, i came away with 2 carriers of broad beans and the strawberries are only a couple of days away from tasting

It is very nice to take over a plot with existing produce ie fruit, but i am thinking of clearing everything out and starting again with a blank canvas.  The previous owner had 3 plots and he used to grow stuff to sell, so for me, there is much stuff in the wrong place

Mr Sunny put up the bamboo screening on the frame (depsite the wind  )

I planted out some butterhead lettuces, cut off a few flower stalks from shallots (never ever had any before  ) and watered the mini tunnel -- watermelon plants look very healthy  :D

Rose arch etc still in place and no sign of a payroll demand either

Little damage to the roses, just a couple of shoots from Zepherine Drouhin needed a prune  :)

Finally finished planting out the courgettes and squashes.  Meant to plant out climbing French beans and more runners but the wind was so strong this morning I gave it a miss. Planted out a few more cabbages, black nero kale and kohl rabi. Yum, yum.

Pricked out lettuces (40 Sweetheart, 40 Little Gem). Planted 4 Scallop Mixed squash and 1 Eight Ball Courgette. Moved beets from growframe (not doing too well) into raised bed (if they live, they live) and same with some dwarf kale. Tied up toms and broadies. Watered up.

Hubby and I went up to the plot with the children again despite the wind.

We:

- did some weeding
- potted on tomatoes
- topped up other tomatoes with manure
- sorted some for the plant sale next weekend
- planted some more of the cheap onions setts which I had started off in modules in the gaps in one of the beds
- sorted the best of the courgette and squash plants for the new plot
- sorted mange tout and peas for new plot
- topped up the lasagne beds and planted them up
- put some of the original strawberry plants back in the front small border in the new plot.

So, that is 2 large and one small beds out of 5 large and two small beds on the new plot.

We finished the day by harvesting some chard, broad beans, lettuce and herbs.

Well after all this weeks rain I decided to get the greenhouse sorted out. By the end of a lengthy session I have all the trays in position, some grow bags in them & some tomatoes potted in to the pots. All the early sowing's were full of side shoots & so long & spindly. I've pruned them & tied them up but whether they will thicken up& produce a good crop I don't know. I was almost ready to put the lot in the compost & one point. But it looks so much better, but not before having to move things 2/3 times to make space for the toms. Made a mental note not to get in this mess next year, but it's not the first time I've left it too late to set them in place. I've still got 30-40 spare plants. Need to go the trading store & get another 10 grow bags & some more compost tomorrow & finish potting the rest of the toms up.

Pushed the petrol mower 1 mile to the plot and cut the paths whilst looking for Livingstone!

Thanked a neighbour who had rescued the roofing felt from my shed roof...blowing in the wind!!

Clambered up my short ladder, replaced the roofing felt and secured it with a few battens... clouting my thumb in the process trying to reach too far.  Must put my glasses on more often!!

Pulled some weeds then realised time was getting on....

Pushed the mower 1 mile home again.... cut the lawns at my parents place.

Inbetween whiles prepared lunch, cooked dinner, sorted pills, made drinks, visited the chemist, Post Office and local shops for supplies, tuned the tv, vacuumed the floors, sorted the washing......and even managed to get some lunch for me for a change.

After a week away, I did a lot of weeding!

Also did some repotting, earthing up of some late tates I put in before I went away.

My peas are in a tub that I have in the green house so brought that out yesterday.

Need to get some netting for my brassicas as they are all starting to look inviting.

Did some weeding, planted 12 strawberry plants that I got cheap from B&Q. Sowed a row of toga spring onions. Put six outdoor tomatoes in two grow bags, planted two pumpkins and watered in the greenhouse.  Next time weeding is the order of the day lol
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength
