Harvested about twenty slugs that were hiding under my brassica collars.

Then I murdered them all.

Took the children up to the plot straight from nursery to do some watering - over 2 hours later we got home!  Too much chatting to other plotholders and a lovely couple who wanted to know how to get onto the waiting list.

Finally, lots of watering lol
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

*cleared the cat cr.p from the beetroot bed and resowed the beetroot

* Cleared the fox cr.p from the empty bed    and planted the celeriac plants.

*planted the runners, the frenchbeans and the borlotti beans.

*sowed some more springing onions.

* Put some more netting and lots of twiggy sticks on the 2 beds to try and stop the cats and foxes, cubs too, from cr.pping on our nice raised beds

* Watered, watered and watered, but only sparingly and where needed. :)

Got a nettle sting on the bum and my foot scratched by the bramble

 Oh Mrs Ball! You sound as if you have had one of those days! Poor you.
I had quite a good day (if rather hot!). I watered a lot (with the can, so a lot of trips to the tap). Managed to dig out and weed half of an old compost heap that I am trying to remove. Weeded one of the blackberry beds. Planted out some Bulls Blood Lettuce and three Butternut Squash (hope they will be ok). Repotted celeriac, swedes, broccili, golden celery, red celery, Welsh onions, Japanese parsley, Siberian onions, rosemary, Lemon basil, Thai basil, Good King Henry, three Snowy aubergines (not hopeful about those), land cress and a random selection of pumpkins and squash that were straggling! Managed to get more tomatoes into bigger pots - where do they keep coming from? Did I really plant so many?!

Weeded the carrots, onions, broad beans and strawberry bed.
Planted out borlotti beans and climbing french bean 'Isabel'.
Sowed a row of spring onions amongst the carrots as a catch crop.
Planted 2 rows of rocket.
Planted out Spinach beet seedlings.
Planted marigolds everywhere! Love them - great companion plant for just about everything and they look great.

In the greenhouse - potted up the last of the tomatoes in their permanent homes.
Potted up aubergines and chillipeppers.
Sowed more basil (greek and italian), summer savory, tarragon and chives - I like to have a constant supply.
Sowed more lettuce to ensure a constant supply.

Prepared a bed for my french beans.
Watered everything in the sauna (polytunnel) whilst being dripped on from the roof.
Smoked a lot of fags and drank a lot of tea.

Thanks for the sympathy Allotment Anne. Did feel a bit rattled.

Wish we had loos on our site or no nettles in the bushes

To cap my difficult day yesterday, I checked the squashes I put in large pots in the extension of the allotment (called the garden); thought I would take a risk planting them out.

I had put a small layer of fresh chicken manure in the bottom, topped up with compost, bit like a hot bed and planted some of my squash plants. Could feel the warmth from the manure coming through the compost.

When I checked this morning, I found 2 magpies sitting on one of the pots and all the compost from one pot stewn over the lawn and 2 pots scratched out too. Three dead plants out of the 6 planted.
Not sure weather the magpies did it or the damn fox.

It is enough to put you off growing your own.

Have to start some more courgette seeds. >:( >:(
