A not forecast dry day!  :) Put the black netting which arrived yesterday on my brassica and pea cages. Very impressed with the quality of it - now lets see how long it lasts!

Didn't half sink in to m nicely dug soil as I was doing it!  :(

Managed to pop down with my daughter for half and hour after school, planted first lot of peas (chitted, don't have space to grow too many so don't mind the "faffing" about) and did a little bit of weeding. Saw the beetroot and carrot seedlings have come through and the 1st early potatoes are showing there heads as well  :)

Sowed some green manure (clover and alfalfa) on a couple of beds which I don't plan on using this year. Took advantage of the water logged soil to get rid of some dandelions, as the roots came out a lot easier. Inspected my seedlings in the raised beds, all of which seem to be doing well and sprinkled some slug repellant around. Noticed I have a few pea shoots at last and put netting over them.

So i dug out a nice double row for peas. then I put in a 14 foot row following the principles of digger Dave.

it looked good and felt good.

then I covered it quite deeply because we have a mouse problem at the mo. finally gonna nip back up to spread a variety of smelly things on the row to deter them ones.

You'll never plow a field by turning it over in your mind.

Wasn't expecting to get to the plot as I had to take a day off work with a poorly boy (only because it was within 48hrs of his last sickness not permitted to send him to school apparently) anyway by 10 am we had done the park for an hour and he asked to go to daddy's garden  :) .....managed to get 8 calabrese, 8 primo cabbage and 8 greyhound cabbage in. Just need to find time over the weekend to get 16 Cauli's in as there more than ready  :(

Also dug over a 4 x 4 metre bed and sowed peas, carrots and parsnips for the wifes great grand uncle  (I think he 86?) he keeps saying he's giving it up but I won't let him, as I know what will happen once he's got nothing to get up for  :( but he does look poorly lately but trying to give him as much help as possible to keep him interested.

NN2Blue has posted an excessively long link.

We'll get onto it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Went this morning to find my carrots and beet root have finally germinated after 20 days.   :D

Covered the baby cabbage plants with a large plastic cloche to protect them a bit and put plastic bottle collars round the kale plants to protect them from the slugs as they have been munched since they went in a week ago.

Dug over some empty areas and sowed carrots, beetroot, little gem lettuce, radishes, turnip, mizuna and rocket. Also sowed some red clover in the beds we will be using for squashes and sweetcorn as they are empty and not needed for a while.

Picked some chard and PSB and parsley.   Covered over the sown seeds as met check said we'd be having frost next week!

Cleared another 5 barrowloads, mostly goosegrass, bindweed, nettles and grass. Ripped up another few chunks of ancient carpet and some rotten planks.  Satisfying.  Husband dug out another 2 sets of plum tree shoots/roots, only about 50 to go!  >:(

Got some sweetcorn seedlings today in the post, so need to create a bed to put them in.  In the meantime presumably I need to put them into little pots and harden off (at least that's what the instructions say).

Parsnip seed saved from last year is up like mustard and cress

Carrots germinated too.

Planted out the oca, which is all shooting away, earthed up the maincrop potatoes.

Got fleece ready for emergency potato covering against frost when needed.

Mr Sunny perused the giant cloche for a while.... attaching the plastic roof ideas
then he dug out a flower bed 1.5m by 0.4m ready to receive this year's hyacinth bulbs that have finished flowering in pots, and some lavatera seed

At home potted on petunias and bizzie lizzies, planted the chitted sweetcorn seed, sowed basil in pots and three parthenon courgette seeds

Earthed up my two rows of earlies in between the rain/hail. I had to as they were beginning to show and we had a frost last night. Not the right condition to earth up in as the ground is saturated but needs must.
