Bought a blackberry 'Waldo' yesterday and planted it today
after the previous planting died   >:(

Found a corner to use up the excess onion sets that I bought and planted these and a few shallots 'Golden Gourmet'  saved from last year's crop. Covered them with netting reclaimed from the compost heap at the bottom of the field (It's amazing what some people throw away and mores the point, don't they understand plastic won't rot on a compost heap? That's a chair and netting so far  :))

Then set about forking over more of the plot, removing weeds as I go.
Mixed in some manure where the caulis and celeriac will be going as well
In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.

Well I forgot my carrot seeds so I couldn't sow them.

Apart from that, a lovely afternoon with even a chat squeezed in.

Plenty of weed seeds germinating now.

The Martock Beans have hardened off no problem at all. They started indoors and are now out uncovered after a week in between in the cold frame. They look happy and healthy.

Are these the greatest gardening days?

Hi folks (big wave), <--- first ever post!

We had a lovely afternoon down our plot yesterday, we have officially had it a week today. It is majorly overgrown so we're just clearing a bed at a time. Yesterday pretty much finished the first bed, cleared space for two pallet compst heaps and ripped up yet more carpet (grrrrr)

Today is all about building said compost bins and trying to pit in our first raised bed and maybe, just maybe putting in the onion sets. :)

Happy digging everyone.

Spent 4 hours weeding sycamore seedlings, chickweed and goose grass from the onion/shallot/garlic beds. I swear by the end of the 4 hours more had grown in the bits I started weeding first  :)

Had a few hours there this morning - planted 4 rows of spuds, dug over 3 large beds, created the support for the peas that will go in within the next week or so.

Going to nip back after a bite to eat and sow some carrots, spring onions, and maybe some more onion sets if i can find the room (bought far too many!!!)

Hello to you all, joining tonight if nobody minds, just been given my own allotment which is very exciting mum of 2 and youngest is only 6 months which is going o be a challenge (waiting list was supposed to be 10 years not 1.5 ) spent today digging out rubble and putting up a bean pole wigwam for the kids to play in.( I'm a childminder too) can't wait for lighter nights so can really get stuck in looking forward to getting to know you all

Hi gail and welcome  :D You're certainly going to be busy with children and plot - great way to get little gardeners started.

I finished planting potatoes and hoed the rest of the veg bed. It looks tidy and respectable ready for a bit of planting next month. I think the soil is warming up nicely.

Planted out climbing peas and caulies.   Got the spuds in as well - got a sheltered spot, but also got some fleece handy just in case  :)

Got a bed weeded and the red onions in next to the shallots that have been in a few weeks and coming along nicely, and got the strawberry bed weeded and new runners in.  Got some raspberry canes from a friend so will put those in tomorrow, together with some more weeding. Will put a few new potatoes in the polytunnel to get an early crop a few weeks before those outside (which I haven't planted yet - doing that next weekend - the bed is full of weeds!)  :D

Planted a Gooseberry bush Hinnonmaki Red,  Cauliflower, Snowball x 10, Cabbage Hispi x 5, Sprouts Evesham Special x 5 and Runner Bean Equator x 10.

Started putting together the cover for the strawberry bed.

2nd proper visit to our new plot today. Met some more neighbours; due to the fine weather the place was heaving.  Before our visit, my husband collected a wheelbarrow and some wood from 3 kind Freeglers and we put them to good use.

Lots more clearing. We are lucky that the tenant who abandoned it 2 years ago had membrane everywhere, so even the couch grass growing over it was mostly not too hideous to remove. Now we have cleared about a quarter of the plot to bare earth, in about 3.5 hours total work.  Not too bad!   We can now build 4 small raised beds in the cleared area, and hopefully get our seed potatoes in fairly soon.

Took the other half and kids to see the plot today. It had been strimmed back by the nice council man (as promised) and now that you can see the plot properly, it's scared me a little with how big it is!

Got a good idea of where everything's going to go now  :)

Planted some first early potatoes & popped to the pub across the road when we heard the morris dancers start & to check out their beer festival.

Never actually got round to going back
Toiling through 100sq metres of clay - And I don't actually eat much veg!
