Deep or shallow root trainers, especially for brassicas

The recent thread on deep root trainers got me having a look about on Amazon and ebay.

I have quite a lot of brassicas to get started this year. Do they need deep root trainers (12 cm as far as I can tell) or the shallower ones (7.5 cm)?

Anyone got any advice or views on what the shallow ones would be good for?

Thanks

The old timers start all of theirs in seed trays, so the shallow ones are fine, I've found - unless they are held back because their planting place isn't ready.
If that happens I move each one into a slightly bigger pot.

Thanks, MoS. That'll save me a bit on compost!

Any other advice on what the shallow ones are suitable for? Shallot seeds maybe?

You can use them for shallot seeds, a pinch in a module and then plant the clump out as is. AS they grow they push themselves apart.

Great. So well worth buying... What a good excuse! (I haven't spent much on seeds this year, honest.)  ;)
