We are in the process of making a chicken run ,which will mean our compost bin is inside the run will this be ok? or will it do chickens any harm, we put all our chicken manure in plus veg peelings egg shells etc many thanks.

If it has a lid so they can't rummage in it, then no problem.

Has a lid and door at front to empty when needed, i was a bit worried of any liquid that seeped out it is placed straight on the floor.

Hi there

Just be aware that rats love to nest in compost bins, I had mine a couple of metres outside of the girls pen and noticed some rat activity very quickly so got some bait down and moved the bin quick.

I read somewhere on the internet that if a compost  has maggots , they can carry the Clostridium bacteria that cause botulism , which is very nasty as well as the decomposing compost creating a mildew and fungus , especially in the summer months which can cause real problems  .

I've found my girls many times pecking at the bottom of the barrel and they loved it , especially for  the odd worms and bugs  but just to make sure ,I won't let them near it now.
Better safe than sorry
