clematis advice needed
« on: December 02, 2007, 19:53 »
Hi we have a clematis which we bought earlier this year so didnt expect it to flower til next year. lo and behold it has had two gorgeous flowers on it since thursday.
its against a fence on the south sde of our garden and  i need some advice on wether to cut it down, leave it alone or whatever!!!.
We have already had snow this year -although only for a day- and even the roses are in flower today. we live between mansfield and chesterfield.
any advice would be welcomed.  cheers
trying to get the best from every day

we really need to know the variety - some stay as they - some get cut down - some need a good hack - some hate pruning

did you not get a label with it ?

For the rest of this season, leave your clematis as is. But come spring, you'll need to know the variety for specific pruning.
I have clematis blooming even through snow but direct hard frost hits do them in for the season.
