As mentioned Kale (Probably the best thing about winter apart from Porridge for breakfast) Cabbages, Leeks, Swede and in my greenhouse, perpetual Spinach, Lettuce and anything else I can grow.

Bob

PS Also experimenting in dried Peas and Beans, summer grown for winter foods.

Try escarole (a milder form of chicory), radicchio, mache(corn salad), land cress, rocket :) o and winter hardy salad onions. Late lettuces are ok i find up till end Nov.
For this winter i'm still trying to find a mildew resistant lettuce as it was the only thing that i had trouble with:(

I put perpetual Spinach (Spinach Beet) into standard fish boxes (32"x18") with about 4 inches of compost, I sowed in seed trays in late September and transplanted to about 4 inches apart in October and left them to it. I was harvesting weekly through late Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb, as it started to warm in March it became twice weekly, I then moved the boxes to the coldframe and now finally outside and we are still cropping whilst we wait for this years outside crop to be ready (A month or so yet).

Best packet of seeds I have ever bought  :)

Don't over water greenhouses in Autumn/Winter especially as temps fall, once the soil is wet (And cold) you don't have the heat of spring summer to dry it out.

Jerusalem artichokes.

You're not funny you know  :D Id rather eat the soil they grow in  :tongue2:  :tongue2:  :tongue2:

Id forgotten the cabbage.  Snips and other roots are out until I remove more of the rubble in the soil.  I'll certainly give the kale a go and celeriac looks - interesting.
