How many courgette plants do you grow to supply your familly?

We grow 3 plants, 2 plants just about keeps up with our demands as a family of four (2 adult 2 children) but 3 gives us enough with quite a few spares to give to friends neighbours and work coligues.

Everyone ends up sick of them by the end of summer though.  

Also just to add, went to one of the major supermarkets last night and they are selling them for £1 for 3 what a rip off.

I`ve got 4. Had quite a few off one plant and the others are all starting to produce.

Usually grow 2 or 3 for me, my daughter/SIL/grandkids, which leaves lots to freeze in pasta sauces, soups etc for the winter for all of us

We grew 3 plants of "All Green Bush" last year and we kept up with them easily, so we have grown a yellow variety (whose name escapes me just now ) as well. We have 6 of each. We're keeping up with them fine, as they aren't growing.

I had a big space for courgettes this year as I coverend the biggest and worst bed down the allotment in black fabric and planted courgettes and squashes through.  Think i've ended up with over 10 courgettes and over 10 squashes of differenent varities!!!  I love courgettes but think this year it may be a bit over-kill lol.  But they did all just keep germinating!  I'm picking when very young this year to try and consume most of the produce... Lots for friends and family too me thinks!

I have 5 good sized plants on the go on the allotment which are now producing well. My 2 children don't really eat vegetables in any appreciable amounts, so its just me and the mrs, who so far have been keeping on top of them. It's got to the point today though where I cut another 5 off not because I wanted them for anything, but just to stop them getting too big. I think a courgette soup will be on the menu shortly.

I have a couple of small ones at home, one of which is about to peg it (it was a thinning that I couldnt bear to bin, but I may as well have) and the other is starting to produce.

Our favourite way of using them up is with bacon, chilli and garlic with pasta with red pesto to bring it together, garnished with chopped up cherry tomatoes, parmesan and olive oil. Very nice.

Last year I gave an elderly neighbour a few courgettes and suggested she try them halved and baked with a cheesey/herby/garlicky topping. Despite her initial surprise at the very idea she asked me yesterday whether I'd got any more this year as she enjoyed them so much!

I usually grow a yellow one too (taxi i think it's called) just to add a bit of extra colour to salads (etc), but just the one variety this year though, All Green Bush.

OOOh Robert S Garlic, chilli, bacon courgettes sound lovely!! I'm going to try that one! As ever, always looking for a good courgette recipe.

I have 1 green and 1 yellow in the polytunnel (been eating them for a month now) and 2 more yellow and 3 more green outside. The plan is to cull the polytunnel ones once the outdoor ones get going but i bet i chicken out!!

The ones it the polytunnel started by producing female flowers and no males, so i've had weeks of baby 'gettes.

We're growing 8 for two of us and chucking around the family, and four squash.

They're sulking a bit, as they need a bit more warmth and also rain (the courgettes, not the family)! The first two are just three inches long, and we delayed slaughter for 24 hours...

I have a stopwatch on them, as by Friday, it'll probably be dark out there with their enormousity...

I go with the garlic, chilli, bacon and pasta... that's how I often cook them.

I grow too many but I do like the various different varieties, big uns, little uns, green, white, yellow, striped, cogs, flat, fa, dumpy, long. You get the picture 

I eat them in every which way possible so do the neighbours
