Isn't it interesting the way preferences in roses, like most things, is "beauty in the eye of the beholder" and all that jazz.  ::)

I love the scent of roses - we have problems growing all but a couple of shrub roses at home - probably our beds are just too crowded for them so I have 5 on the allotment... lovely wafts of scent.

As for picking - so disappointing - they really don't last especially in the height of summer.

I like that rose in the link Trillium.

Learner was just gonna say the same myself, about different tastes, although I do have a very pretty pink rose, which when a bud is baby pink like the ones you get in brides bouquet and they open to almost white.  That stripey rose of mine has a gorgeous smell.

It's the pong that does it for me - brings back childhood memories of warm summers and a long rose arch through the middle of the garden...  ::)

Thats pretty, and I love their comment...

It often has a rather lax growth habit and although capable of repeat flowering it often does not.

sounds like a flower that is quite laid back!!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

Thanks for the link but would not be for me... looks too much like a raspberry ripple ice-cream. Give me the old fashioned plain and simple colours...

How about "Peace"?  ::)  Peace - artist's impression

Already have Peace in the garden; it's a repeat bloomer but not one of my favourites.

Have this one in the garden and it's a beauty:

Here's a bit more info on reines des violettes. It's almost thornless, repeat bloomer with strong fragrance. In the UK it will probably climb a bit.

Lovely looking blooms Trillium but not my narrow / old fashioned idea of "proper roses"  ::) I just can't cope with the very bright colours and shape

I do like the look of 'Peace' Leaner, may have to go looking for that one.

We have 1 very old rose ('Rosus unknown inheritedus' ;)) that chucks up a few red flowers each year, and a rambler that had a serve hair cut this year and finally decided to throw up a mass of small white flowers.

Not really got enough space for roses, but think Peace may get sneaked in!

Trillium, what size are the flowers on your RdeV? In the details it says they are large, I have bought this for 2 diggerent gardens and each time the flowers have been quite small .
I was thinking of buying it for here as I love the colour, but perhaps I need to try a different supplier, if they should be large  ::)

I have bought all the roses, 8 so far, in this garden from Peter Beales Roses and the plants have been really strong, so I could recommend them.
Will have to try the Reines de Violettes from them, their web site says they have large flowers :)
