last year was my first year as an allotment holder and i inherited a greengage tree  on my plot.I spent the first few months of on the plot preparing the soil&growing as much veg as  i could without really paying much attention the fruit tree,then August arrived &i found that the tree was laden with juicy ripe fruit.Is there anything i should be doing to ensure another bumper crop this year?

The greengages are veritable old boots when it comes to fruit trees and actually require nothing other than space and daylight to produce. Tree owners say they do nothing for them, not even manure or water them, and still get great crops. The worst thing you can do to this tree is to prune it heavily at any time, so other than removing dead wood or crossing branches, leave it alone. All pruning does is force out masses of new barren growth while massively reducing fruit production.

Like already said do nothing

Ours two years ago had two fruits ( and they were lovely is only a few )

Last year boy oh boy bumper was the word, we have our fingers crossed for a similiar crop this year
