hi guys - just recieved a seed order and amongst it are turnip seeds. i cant find a guide for sowing . i had a quick look on line and am wondering if its too late to put some in now or at the weekend!?

You still have time to plant your turnip seeds.  What variety are they as some perform better later in the year than others?  

We like them when they are small and tender topped and simply boiled - served with a big blob of butter with new potatoes.  But they can continue to grow into the autumn (and later) and make a good addition to the winter menu from the plot.  They go very well in stews and casseroles in the winter along with any of your bean crop you care to dry.

If you over winter them the tops can be used as a green when new sprout first appear in the spring - sadly by then the roots are probably not worth bother with.

I've sown 3 types & they should crop in about 12 weeks.

Oasis which apparently tastes like Melon.
Purple Top Milan.
