Ants
« on: June 12, 2009, 15:41 »
Hi all,
Thanks for all your replies to my other posts.

I've been making a start of the chicken run today and found an ants nest. Do I need to get rid of it or will the chooks eat them, will they harm the chooks?

Hi Jan, sorry I don't know the answer having never had this problem, but I do know ants bite, and wood ands give off a type of acid (formic I think). Don't know if hens would eat ants.
Staffies are softer than you think.

My ducks eat ants.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

just checked my old college books and yes it is formic acid that ants give off (if you annoy ants with something like a bluebell near them they will spray it - it's colour will change  :D).

I can't believe you all ask your OH's permission!

Could of course be why I am single.  :D

My OH always say 'don't know why you're asking me you'll do it anyway' and he's right (for once) :D :D
I use to be indecisive now I'm not so sure
