Tomato blight
« on: August 27, 2014, 13:59 »
It looks like my tomatoes have blight  :(.  There are still a lot of fruits that are not (yet) affected - can I use these or do I need to throw the lot?   And if they can be eaten should I take them off the plants now to finish ripening?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

So disappointed, I've had a huge crop this year, but we have had such a lot of rain.  At least I have had a good few kilos already!

You can use them, and you need to use them asap - this is what I do.

Pick all the ripe toms and any that are changing colour, and put in single layer on a tray. Any ripe toms can be eaten right away, or turned into sauces for the freezer, cutting off the 'blighty' bits. Use the green ones for green tomato chutney.

Any that aren't used need to be looked at every day, as over the next 4 days or so, more will begin to show signs of blight :(
The ones that survive will slowly ripen for use  :)

Stick a ripe banana or 2 in with the green toms - helps to change colour quicker ;)
