Lady of The Night (Night Flowering Jasmine)
« on: July 05, 2010, 23:41 »
We brought some seeds back from our house in Spain, from our Lady of the Night which has grown to over 15 feet there, and smells divine.

Am pleased to say that we have a very healthy bush now of nearly 2 feet.

Anyone know if it will survive outside in the South (london Area)?

Thanks

Cestrum nocturnum is garden hardy to around minus 10C so should do very well in a London garden if given a warm, sheltered spot.

have you got a source to corroborate this information, Arbutus?

All the UK info I have found, says it is not winter hardy so I have not grown it, although I would love to  ;)

amongst others...

although they can be defoliated or even cut to the ground by frosts they regrow unless subjected to severe cold.

Of course it's also classed as an invasive escapee in New Zealand!

I've never heard of this plant but whats wrong with the ordinary jasmine.  I'm sat here almost being knocked out by the perfume from the one in our garden. :) and they're hardy :)

Spana, after three years of waiting my Jasmine has just decided to flower a bit ..it must have heard me saying that it was on it's last warning ...and they are lovely....
but the perfume doesn't carry anywhere near as far as the Lady of the Night's.

and with the 'manure' smell today, wafting across from the farm over the way, my garden could do with any help it can get
