Which of next years crops would benefit moct from bonfire ash? spuds, roots or onions  :)

Not spuds (wood ash is quite alkaline) and not too soon (the salts in it are mostly quite soluble and will leach away over winter, so store in a dry place.)  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I used it round my onions this year and they were huge despite being planted only 4" apart.

Soory, to explain, Going to have a bonfire but the only places available are three beds that are going to house each of the above veg, so wondered which would gain the most from it. Sadly no fruit yet  :(  but if my cunning plan comes together in the spring  ::) Baldrick !!

I did really well with garlic planted in the soil where the bonfire had been, so now I always sieve it where I'm growing alliums.  Plums too  :)
