Christmas Box
« on: November 15, 2009, 16:37 »
I have just been given a rooted shoot from a Christmas Box - an evergreen shrub with purple berries. Does anyone know anything about this plant - what it likes/dislikes etc?

I believe Christmas box is called Sarcocca. There are several varieties such as S. confusa and their winter flowers are supposed to be quite perfumed. I think they like a neutral pH soil and reasonable drainage and are evergreen.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Wonderful honey scent  :). They don't like to cook in summer (who does?!) so a bit of dappled shade is good.

As far as I can remember this has white flowers on it and the scent is quite potent. No need for air fresheners at that rate.
