On a slightly more serious note    if you have a fox problem you will have an even bigger problem if you use it - they just can't resist it, and the deeper you have applied it (eg on spuds) the deeper the excavations you will have to put up with!

Good point Jay - I lost sweetcorn last year to a fox diggin them up because I had put a bit of chicken poo in the hole I planted them in.

On a side note, I've never seen foxes in the garden or within a good few miles, but did hear them barking at one point last year (it is a mating call I believe!). We live surrounded by fields so I've no doubt they are arround.

But I have chickens and rabbits so I don't want to attract them into the garden, is there an alternative?  Everything I read says "blood, fish and bone etc" I've bought a bag but not used it yet.  Alas my phototoes didn't get anything dug in first they will have to do their best without

I've had less problems with dried chicken poo because they seem to learn that it doesn't taste quite as good as expected! 

They never seemed to learn the same lesson with BFB though.   

Only certain remedy is an inorganic fertiliser (Growmore being the most obvious choice.)

I use BFB, chicken manure pellets, calcified seaweed,comfrey tea and liquid seaweed (not all at the same time...) We have a fox problem - they have excavated a basement to my greenhouse - but I'm not sure it would make all that much difference what I put on the soil. They treat my plot like Tescos anyway. It seems like we just have to learn to live with them.

Do I need to compost it down of can I just dig it in before planting out the poatoes!

I think your chickens and rabbits themselves are more likely to attract the foxes than a bit of bfb, I'd use it I don't think you'll suddenly have an invasion of them if they haven't already tried to get at your chooks.

My bunnies are very well litter trained I'll have you know    (although yes it is a little muddled with the hay  )

Bunny poo is a cold manure so can be applied straight without having to let it rot down..
