I have a bed which is quite shady, especially in summer, as it is behind a trellis with 2 pears trained against it.
Any suggestions for what I can grow in it? I don't mind what it is (herbs/veg etc) as long as it is a seasonal crop as I used it over winter to plunge bulbs and over winter stuff.

I know that lettuce doesn't like full sun - would this also be true for the other salad crops?

I grew J artichokes in shade despite them being sunflower family.  Parsley and par-cel doesn't mind shade.  Comfrey will grow well in the hedge in the shade/  Spuds too I find have tolerated quite deep shade in my lotty. Charlotte did well.  Leeks and celeriac were grown by my hedge too

I don't know if the vast amounts of nettles growing along my hedge line had anything to do with it. They could have kept the plants nourished without any intervention from me :?

Yes, quite a few salad leaves should do ok, also spinach, sorrel, parsley, broccoli or growing some nettle, maybe.
