Planting between paving.
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:33 »
Anyone got any suggestions as to what I could grow in the crack between paving stones??
Last year I accidently spilled some cat grass seeds when I was making up a planter and I quite like how the grass looks growing between!
Ive googled for info but I cant seem to find any of the seeds for the plants mentioned, which is very irritating!
So what could I grow between paving that is easily available and pet friendly??

There are some nice creeping Thymes available that add colour and fill the space well

candytuft, lobelia or any very small rockery or alpine plant would grow if not trodden on too often

Purple thyme looks good and doesn't mind being walked on -- and the oregano is making a bid to fill some more of the gaps

you know I might just get a bunch of seeds from the plants mentioned, mix them with some potting compost, stuff them in the cracks and wait and see!!

Some nice suggestions.

Years ago, I did an RHS course when interplanted paving was all the rage.  They recommended alpines and grown cover perennials like saxifrage, thymes, limanthes, aubretia, sedums, chamomile, sempervirens, Saponaria ocymoides, small perennial grasses such as glucosa, etc.  I would recommend growing from seed or buying plugs from J D Parker or similar.
