sprays to use
« on: May 01, 2009, 18:50 »
Hi, over the weekend we are going to dig up a large area of the garden to plant some veg, but at the moment we have brocilli growing in one area, which is netted, though its being eaten by something - we have put slug stuff down.  What I wanted to ask was, as I have a few guinea pigs and they are going to be eating this veg (if it grow oks), but I seem to have flies around it, so not sure if they are eating the broccoli which as a few holes in the leaves, but what I could use on the plants to spray which will kill any insects, but also I dont want to use sprays that when its come washing the veg and feeding it to the animals, will harm them? Hope that makes sense!
many thanks.
Natasha

What do the flies look like, Natasha? Until you know what the pest is you can`t really treat it.

I don`t think the flies are the problem, my guess, without seeing the damage, would be keel slugs. They live in the soil and only come out at night. Any chance of a pic?

i have taken two pictures, but it wouldn't let me load on here - you can see one has holes in the leaf and the other one, on one of the leaves there is only half a leaf left.
thanks natasha

I'm guessing slugs or snails from that damage
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
