Purchased a fork and spade 30 years ago from ASDA  the fork is still going strong, but I broke the spade a couple of years ago.  :( Using the shaft as a dibber :tongue2:
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!

The fork you are going to use will speak to you when you see it.

I've got a stainless steel spade (great tool), a spear and jackson wide blade fork (prefer it to the stainless steel one for digging) and a cheap Yeoman shovel which has been the saving of hours of time this year. Worked two seasons without one and am now wondering how I managed.

The wrong tools for you are like worn out shoes in the garden - both hurt.

I have managed to break Wilkinson Sword and Spear and Jackson and other recognised makes ones at a rapid rate, as in less then a years use. Considering that I don't really use them that much I was more then a little disappointed. The ground isn't heavy either.

The last one I bought was another Wilkinson Sword and it seems to be doing a little better although I did select one that was relatively narrow to minimise the load applied. Also picked the one that seemed to have the most robust prongs.

oops.

I've just unwrapped the exact one Adam got me for a birthday present.

(i'm so sorry to keep harping on about my birthday. it'll be over in  couple of hours... i promise!!  :D )

he got it from homebase.

really couldn't work out what it was because he wrapped it so very well (that was sarcasm, he wrapped it very closely so it looked like a fork wrapped up )
