Electric fencing
« on: January 23, 2011, 15:41 »
Has anyone got experience of using an electric fence? We have a nightly visitor and am hoping that such a fence will persuade him to leave the hens alone when they arrive.
Also, does anyone know where we can get some black marans from, I kept these 35 yrs ago and the eggs were terrific..

Welcome to the forums. :) There are a number of useful articles/threads about fox-proofing and electric fencing on this board:

thankyou for the welcome. The site was recommended by a friend who keeps a few 'girls' as he calls them.

Don't know if we have foxes but the electric fence has certainly worked with the dogs!!  They have very quickly (1st day today) started to pretend they're not interested as they are fed up with stinging their noses.

My friend's dogs also worked that out very quickly.

Provided the fox is startled enough not to think about jumping over, it should work.

Hi there - and welcome to the site.  If you had Marans 35 years ago I would suspect they were the Dark English Cuckoo Marans, as they were the only ones in the country at that time.

Check out my site to see photos to check they were the ones you had.  The girls are always much darker than the boys.

All the best
