brassica plants
« on: January 02, 2024, 13:53 »
I was looking through a seed catalogue as you do when its raining outdoors when I came across brassicas plants for sale I had to look a couple of times to actually get it write that each plant was around 60p +pp and the swede plants where even more expensive

so I'm  thinking am I  still living in the 50s when a gardener used to grow and sell brassica plants for about 2 bob a score for puling plants or there about  I can remember my Dad going down this mans house to buy brassica plants but not at 60p each  I can't get over 60p a plant my wife said its 2024 not 1954 but I still can't believe 60p per plant is this the going rate for plants these days because I've been giving ours away for free :D

I know, it is madness isn't it, when you think how many seeds you get in a packet?
I can understand buying seedlings/young plants for things that are difficult to germinate without heat, if you haven't got a greenhouse or large window sills, but for anything else ????

TBH I thought 60p a plant isn’t bad, but then I do indeed buy grafted aubergine plants every year.

I take your point  missmoneypenny if you want  to buy plants that's you choice and far be it from me to say any different  it was just my opinion that these plats where to costly for me  as I prefer to grow my own anyway and although there's a bit more work involved to raise plants from seed I've found its a better for me  but that's my preference so good luck with whatever you buy

Thanks Rowlandbells, as you say each to their own, I’m lucky enough to be still working and can afford it, to me £1.50 per aubergine plant ( or whatever it is) isn’t a big deal compared to the 10 or so aubergines I’ll get out of each one and the sheer joy when I see the plant covered in those black fruits 🍆😁
