Is there a variety which produces less flatulence than the normal JAs.
OH saw them on telly and fancies trying them, but is afraid of their legendary powers!  :D

No real probs, here Rob, not that we are vegie or would eat them every day. Some people are more prone to it than others. Go for it!

A lot of herbs and spices aid all sorts of digestive problems.

No effect at all with me, eat quite a lot now, mash them with tats, celeriac and chokes. Sprouts are my main problem, no wonder we have gales here in the winter.

They didn't affect me, cabbage and miso soup do it for me.  Our next door plotholder asked us to dig them up and take them away as he can't eat them for that reason, so I made a soup and no problem!

Interesting, it would seem that most are unaffected, but if you are susceptible the results are catastrophic.

I tried going dairy-free to help with a chronic sinus complaint, but couldn't do without milk in tea and coffee. Soya milk seemed like the answer, but the wind!!     I was made to sit alone in the kitchen until the effects subsided. :(

Hence the original question, 'cause I don't want to repeat the experience. Ever.

You have my heartfelt sympathy, Sadgit. It's like having an eternal cold, and the headaches are beyond description and last for days. Once they've settled in, nothing seems to shift them either.

Echinacea tablets help, but can't be taken over long periods.
The only thing that helps whilst a head-breaker is in progress is the wife's night essence (see link), which is a relaxant, and seems to dissipate the build-up of tension. It's available from most good health food shops.

The fartiness is apparently down to inulin, a polysaccharide (note this is not insulin, which is a hormone)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inulin

Not much in the way of avoiding farts though, apart from to have a small quantity of artichoke at first to let gut flora adjust. Farting is good for you, anyway ;)

Are you two or these two complaints related by any chance?

If soy milk is that bad I'd not bother with them, but I think it would be different components.

Depends on the quantity, Mushy. After the soya I could've filled a zeppelin.
