Pasta bake
« on: September 10, 2014, 07:37 »
Just wondering if i could make pasta bake in the slow cooker with wholewheat pasta. I could spoon it out into a dish add cheese and brown in the halogen oven?

I use mushrooms, courgettes, spinach, onions ect depending on the season.

I could be wrong here but I would imagine that the pasta would go soggy in a slow cooker. But then again I am still a beginner when it comes to using one.

It may work fine if you start with something like dry penne pasta. I know some lasagna noodles don't have to be precooked before layering, it just softens up with the moisture from the tomato sauce. Not sure if it would work too well with spaghetti noodles, but with other shapes/types it might.

I did it with pasta spirals and they were very soft and over cooked before the onions in the sauce were ready. Maybe if you cut the veg very small you could judge the timing better than I did.

Wholewheat pasta takes longer to cook so it might be a tad more robust.
