Anyway to keep a buddlia bush small
« on: September 14, 2009, 19:36 »
Every year I cut  my buddlia's back really hard, and they thrive. This year I've turned part of my garden into veggie patches, and the buddlia keeps out lots of light from the veggies.  I don't really want to pull the buddlia out, and was anyone wondering if there was a way to thin them or stunt their growth.  Feel like I may be asking the impossible.

Cut down hard as usual, and when newgrowth is fairly high, cut at 1 foot. repeat with 2ary growth. It will be bushier, but buddleias do shoot away, especially if you turn your back on em.
It's a bit of a shame to massacre a bush though, (even buddleia): maybe it'd be better to call it a day and find something else?
