NO earwigs are not beneficial to sweetcorn 

Brown tassels are a good sign though

Had to  pull mine today as tassels had gone brown and leaves also brown and yukky looking   Each had 1 cob on and hardly worth the effort.  Only a few corns on each cob, skin tough to bite and chew.  Gutted cos I thought they might have won over my son who is not a fan of sweetcorn.

Mine are doing really well after a bad start in May due to the awful weather - some of the plants have two cobs on and I have never had that before. Just hoping that it does not get too windy and ruin them. If all goes well should be picking the first cobs in about a week. Yummmmm.

mine are only just starting to get feathery bits on top and are nearly 2'6" tall.

Our swift sweetcorn were doing great last week. 

I decided to leave harvesting until the weekend as we had our niece and nephew down. 

When we arrived at the allotment on Saturday, the sweetcorn plants had been trampled on and a handful of mature cobs had been removed from the plants, had the surrounding leaves torn off and the kernels eaten!  Judging by the plant damage, I would guess it was badgers as I could not see a rat flattening some of the plants - they are 5 foot high. 

Luckily, they must have got full up and left the rest, so I constructed a barrier in the hope they will find it too much like hard work getting to the rest.  I harvested 4 anyway that seemed ready and we ate them the other night - they were delicious!

My swift are doing fine too, gales the last 2 days have downed half a dozen despite wind break netting - will try lifting and supporting this pm
