Plot 11 here I come..........!!!!!
« on: January 27, 2007, 14:50 »
Got the key after lightening my wallet to the tune of £41!!
It is full of weeds and tall grass with a big bramble bush up against the fence(Any ides if this is cultivatable??? I love blackberries! Or is it best left alone or should I dynamite it out?????

Thanks for the advice about "geeing" up the council-as soon as I got the number of the Secretary I was in 3 days later!!!

Just got to start digging now!
You can take a horse to water....but a pencil must be lead!!
(No chemicals ......yet!)

yes the bramble is easy to sort  just train  it along the fence .cut out all the old wod and real thick branches /allow the younger ones to go along the fencing use  bits of wire tied loosley  cut  the tips off the longer ones to allow it to bush out more  spray around the roots with round up to kill all the rubbish that grows among the stuf . then feed it with manure . with some tlc you will find that the berries will grow to thumb size
still alive /............

Hallo from me.  looks like you should be able to clear a lot of that top growth with a sturdy rake if you have one, it might make it easier to dig.  Take it easy - do a section at a time - little and often is the way to get it done.

Well I have to say it turned over easily enough....I don't know the type of grass it is but the roots don't go down more than a couple of inches

It is the brambles that worry me ....but muntjac reckons it will be ok

Looking forward to it!!

Yippee my plot is number eleven, and quite heartening it looks just like yours with heaps more brambles, so its great to know someone else is going through it. still all the advice is take it day by day and small piece by piece and when i have signed the paper i can get started. yippee and good luck
If you cant be a good example then you must  be a horrrible warning........

I would try and get some old hessian backed carpet and lay it carpet side down onto any of the plot you are not going to be digging in the immediate future.
This will help with keeping any more weeds from getting a hold and also will help kill any exsisting weeds thus making digging easier when you do get to cultivating it Have used it to great effect on my plot!

Congratulations all the advice you have is relevant ,3 years ago my plot looked just like that, take your time .IF you can,buy your self a roll of black polythene, and cover what you dont cultivate.you will be able to use the polythene over and over again, also carpet gets really heavy and unpleasant to handle when wet.
