I recently saw Carol Klein on GW cut them right down. Yes it will look bare but new growth will appear in a short while. I have done this with mine and they are already producing new leaves.

Yes, I did cut them right down, and low and behold, they're popping up again.  Marvellous.  Just shows, sometimes it's o.k. to go with your gut reaction.

Hey guys, what do you think. After cutting poppies right down to the ground, they've started to grow again!  Now about 12".  Is this normal, or am I lucky/unlucky.  The joys of gardening eh!
