is it true i make a hole to the size i want my leeks to grow to and dont fill the hole in with soil. if this is true what will hold the leeks in place many thanks neil p.s as much leek advice as possible much appretiated.

In written terms:

Dib a hole at least 6" deep. Drop the plant in it, water & forget it.

Don't worry about what's holding it there, it'll lean against the side of the hole until it's rooted and then straighten itself up.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Not really needed, pigeons & butterflies don't bother with them.

If you're really unlucky, leek moth may be a problem and you'd need fleece or enviromesh to stop them.
