Over-Wintered Potatoes
« on: January 24, 2015, 11:23 »
Hi guys, I've taken on an additional plot and when digging over one of the raised beds I've managed to dig out about 40 pounds off jacket sized potatoes.

There were a few that were slug damaged and a few has holes and wire worm damaged etc....

But about 10 looked fine after washing them, and only had a bit of scab and had slightly darkened skin.

They are hard all over and have no signs of sprouting.

Are these good to eat? They were dug this morning.

They look like Desiree or sarpo mira

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I've often found "left overs" with slug damage, which still have a lot of us able potato when the damage is cut out, so the other 30 may be of some use too
