long shoots on stored spuds - remove or not?
« on: March 12, 2008, 22:25 »
I've just got round to getting my spuds out to be chitted and the shoots are already really long (about 8 inch). There are 4 different types from earlies to lates and all are proper seed spuds that have been stored in cloth bags in an unheated understairs cupboard. So the question is do I remove these long shoots before planting next weekend or do I just leave them on. By the way the little leaves that would have formed at the ends of the shoots have blackened off on some of them.

Any thoughts?

cheers

8 inch?

The question is purely entertainment and theoretical of a guess of chances as most of them will be surely 'removed' on planting.

But just for the chances of some surviving the process don't remove them, also for for not wasting your time, of course.
