What I did on the plot today 2024

Early visit to Plot 13 to beat the heat.... Made the first comfrey and nettle tea batches of the year, gave the asparagus and potatoes a seaweed feed and then weeded the whole plot before the little beggars get too big  After a couple of hot dry days the soil in the beds is looking dreadful, grey, dry and cracked plus full of stones. 2024 looks like the year I am mostly going to be putting in some serious work improving the soil in each bed!

Planted out a courgette plant I've had in the cold frame. Planted some peas out that were in modules in the cold frame too. Found a packet of pumpkin seeds so sowed them in pots and placed in the empty space that the peas and courgette left. Went over the grass areas with the push mower

First green shoots have pushed through so its a start!

Mainly dodged the huge downpours trip to chickens x2 on the Lottie &then cleaned loads of plant labels & a bit of tidying & sorting out as I pottered around the garden

In the tunnel I Finally got round to winding some of the tomatoes round the strings that hubby put  up on Monday for me as the tomatoes were starting to scramble around the floor, also side shorted those ones too, some were huge. Applied bonemeal around the peach & pear tree in the tunnel too.

 Went this morning to finish tieing in the tomatoes up but when I got there it was nice weather so I decided to clear the daffodils up & found lots of snails & slugs under there and lots of weeds of course, as they’re planted under the raspberries (not my best idea!) pulled out some suckers and quickly reformed them to my friend further up the site & planted a few to fill a few gaps. After a trip back home for lunch I went back & weeded the carrot bed, what a mess, I hate having to net lots of things & just don’t get round to un net things to weed. Anyhow all sorted & now can see I need to fill gaps. Also managed to get the tomatoes tied in when I sheltered from the rain every cloud and all that
