the slap marker does look nasty true but we were surprised how little the pigs reacted.  We did it while they were eating and could do one shoulder after the other without them being bothered.  to be honest they react more to the electric fencing!

Dam and blast.
If the pigs are going to slaughter you have to have heat proof tags.
these

are not I will need these

But this means that I have to wait now for the herd number.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrg Tin foiled again.

I am even more narked with the pigs as I was changing the car battery on the fence and I was walking back to the garage and I slipped twisted landed on my left hip right knee and my left hand took a lot as it was under the battery.  Nice cut on my finger and sore else where.

The worst thing that could happen is the pigs are a sleep in the trailer and some one takes both trailer and pigs. I have a wheel clamp on the trailer and it is insured. Cost me £12 for fully comprehensive for all year!!!!!!!! But you can not insure the pigs.

Ruffle your such a pessimist, look on the bright side, if someone stole them you wouldn't have to worry about not having the right ear tags, movement order, paperwork.............they would :D

with reference to the slap marking, i think it has only been in recent years that the slap is done on the shoulders! where i worked, a few years ago our pigs had to be slapped in the armpit, the soft sentitive bit behind their elbow  some of our maximus boars would kill you as soon as look at you! they were the size of small horses and had tusks!  they certainly did flinch when it was done there! which i think is why they changed it to both shoulders!
