I thought I had it sussed as well.  :(

I am pleased that they did not load because I can just imagine them getting there unloading and then being turned round again and sent back.
They would probably never load ever again.

What a b*gger!

I didn't understand this bit tho.
LAHO "Hello firstly we need to registrar you as a keeper of pigs, you will then get a herd number, then they must go to slaughter with two tags one for the breeder and the other one for your heard number."

When we sent ours we used a slap marker with our herd number on, didn't need any info on breeder.  We were a bit retiscent to try to attach an ear tag onto a moving pig.  The slap marker worked well and they hardly flinched.

I should also contact your abbatoir, they will need some information from you and you will have to fill in a form for food chain information and consignment details.  You can get these forms from the local animal Heath and Welfare Team.

It is a bit of a minefield 1st time around but you will get the hang of it.

I basically need a herd number.  Then some ear tags and a applicator. I have found that you can get some tags (plastic) blank so I can write my herd number on.

that's good, didn't know you could get blank tags.
We were terrified at the thought of slap marking the pigs, it's basically a bed of nails!  Anyhoo, they didn't mind and the marking was clear when we got the meat back.

I did think about slap marking them.
Slap marking is your herd number or DEFRA Holdings Number tattooed onto the pigs shoulder.

But you have to slap mark both front shoulders and this would not be easy after the first shoulder.  Also you have to wait for the slap marker to be made.

If I go down the ear root I will only have to do one thing to them and then that is it. I could tag them when they are having there tea though it will not be as easy now they are in the trailer.  I will at the weekend try gently putting pliers round there ears just to see if they have probs.
