Something unusual - a post about growing things.

I will be sowing some cauliflower seeds over the Christmas period. I did this last year and had a good crop very early summer.

One seed to a plant plug seed tray insert, in the unheated greenhouse. Planted into 3" pots when large enough, grown on & hardened off before planting out early spring.

I suffer from club root (well my caulis do) and bringing them on early helps avoid the height of the club root season. (Mind you I've got some of Shaun's potion to try this year).

Seeds were your bog standard "All Year Round", but did really well.

About 30. I don't do late ones, club root gets them, although as I say I've got Shaun's potion to try!

Sucess rate - about 90% of seeds sown.

I put seeds in the ground in October and plonked the cold frame over the top of them. They are looking good and healthy so hope to get some quite early next year.

If not all I've lost is a dozen seeds.

Bio Liquid Club Root Control has been taken off the market as it contains (organic people now have the chance to find a different thread, so as not to be offended.

I've got some of that Dave to try put next season.  

I've had a little club root this year.  So one of my allotment buddies recommended it to me and I've got it through another allotment's association.  Just soak the plants before setting out I believe.

That's right, dip them in the solution. Problem is mine will be in 3" pots & will soak a lot up!

being new to all this growing your own stuff malarky I bought some cabbage and caulli plug plants in September and promptly planted them out.  

because they were sold to me at this time of year by Suttons I assumed that caullis were a winter growing plant but apart from the initial growth they put on they've stopped growing altogether....  I don't have them covered - will they be OK with these -5 temperatures we've been getting oop north lately?
