Just had a look at one weather forecast model output (http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=nwdc;sess), and once we get to the weekend it suggests a significant rise in temperature to something much more spring-like, and remaining that way for the next fortnight. If it comes to pass that will raise the soil temperature nicely in readiness for getting those potatoes in towards the end of the month. It also looks relatively dry which if correct will be a blessing for those of us with heavy clay soil that really can't do anything until it stops raining every 2-3 days.

More than you could 50 years ago when I was doing met office duties.  ;) The technology has helped things no end though there are those who still forecast by the use of a groundhog, activities of various local animals and other such methods.

It is the output from one particular numerical weather prediction model (not the one the Met Office uses btw) and there will be uncertainty around the model output, but it does offer some hope that we will see an improvement in the weather from the weekend onwards.

I find this weather site mesmerising ... menu is a bit cryptic, but this for Friday with an overlay of temperature showing a nice warm (well, green-cool rather than red-hot!) swirl over us and up towards Norway :)
