How do I stop the chucks eating the eggs- this is the first time they have done this and I am not sure how to stop it. >:

Hi Trina,

Not had this experience but I would suggest regularly checking nesting boxes if you can and removing eggs asap.

I'm sure a more experienced chicken keeper will be along soon with some suggestions.

Hi, some people suggest that role away nest boxes can be used which makes the egg role into a seperate compartment where the chicken can't get at it. You could also try placing plastic or china eggs in the nest boxes. The birds will try eating them, but in theory will get board when they don't get anything - which I believe is supposed to put them off real ones as well. It is important to try and get eggs out as soon as possible to prevent breakages which is when egg eating can occur. I think mine have done it once or twice but thats only been when theres been a really thin shell which has broke. They don't bother with any others. Good luck with yours anyway.
