Is the French one "Carenten"?
I'm growing Musselburgh, King Richard & Carenten.
Did you see Aunt Sally's whoppers? They were Musselburgh but were H-U-G-E!
Will you keep us posted re your Lyon Prizetaker? They're one of the heirloom varieties I'm thinking of trying next year  :)

St Victor is the french one
Blue/green foliage

I had a thing about Una Stubbs as a young man
That's when I was a young man, not Una Stubbs being a young man.

Anyway, back to the leeks
The Lyon's are doing well so far
Keep you posted

There is a lot more than just variety if you want stonkers, for my big uns I grow Autumn Giants, for my main crop musslebourgh.

Our leeks are well underway we are growing a variety called Autumn Mammoth 2 - Snowstar.  We didn't really want small leeks but weren't really sure what we were buying so we took it that these would be large due to the name Mammoth  :? - any comments anyone?

Musselburgh planted where I'd had a row of broad beans.  Very successful  :D

Awesome!
I'm going to put my next batch where the broad beans are now, and *hope*...the Spring batch have all bolted and the last batch around the lettuces are still tiddlers.
But I know I won't get anything like yours Aunt Sally - those were surely competition winners -  so not going to hope tooo much

Aunt Sally's grew all summer then all winter to get that huge size.
Size doesn't always mean taste or tenderness; the French won't grow such huge leeks as flavour is definitely sacrificed. In fact, they do succession planting of leeks to keep tender stalks coming. Depends on what you want

I wouldn't use leeks that size as a "vegetable" !  For that I'd use young small tender ones.  But my big leeks are wonderful for soups and stews  :!:
