Chitting potatoes going soft
« on: March 11, 2010, 23:42 »
I've been chitting my earlies for a couples of month now & noticed that they are starting to go a bit soft at the bottom (they are all standing on egg trays at the moment). Is that normal or should I start to worry.
I've read & heard that end of March is a good time to put them in, so is that correct?

my earlies are getting pretty soft now and are all shriveled!  :( im still going to wait until the soil is a little warmer before planting though!

going to put some clear plastic down at the weekend and hopefully might warm the soil a little!

They're going to lose some moisture content in producing all those lovely chits which you are hoping for. It has to come from somewhere.  :)
