Ducklings - can we feed crumbled layers' pellets ?

In case you're not aware, we have a brood of mallard ducklings visiting with Mum.

We threw some bird seed out which they have picked over a bit. Would layers pellets, crumbed a bit, be suitable or would it be the wrong mix ?

They've got water and are making good use of it.

Whoa, hold up there Rob!  When did the ducklings arrive?? Last time I looked it was just Mum visiting.  Did I miss something???  AND WHERE ARE THE PICTURES  :!:  :?:  :?:  :?:
