Hatching on Monday
« on: December 15, 2012, 23:26 »
i got 6 eggs that hopefully be hatching Monday sometime

Last time I got 2 eggs that hatched the rest were Dead in Shell, they seem to have dried out

I have been turning them 4 times a day, I have kept the humidity fairly even, 50-60%, the temperature hasnt varied much + or - 1 degree

Do I need to raise the humidity (using a spray bottle) ?

Do I leave them alone and not turn them now ?

I'll be turning them for the last time a midnight
It's all about the journey, not the destination

Only ever used a broody to hatch eggs so can't give you any advice.  Just want to wish you luck and I look forward to seeing the photos of cute fluffy chicks.

only reason I am using an incubator is I dont have any hens left, the dam fox got them, the run and house is now incased in wire mesh,

I have a 'live' wire round everything, (its not near the hens when they are old enough to go outside

I have ben trying to find out more information on the internet all day, hoping I would get a reply from someone here  ???

I checked them 2 hours ago, one is definately clear, so its 5 now, havent heard any pipping, no eggs wobbling of eggs, the humidity has been stable all day

Staying away from the incubator has been an ordeal, I have just checked the temperature and humidity, but just looked through the one inch window  >:(

It is worse than Chrismas eve, I know what I am hoping for, I just hope I am going to get them  :)

BUT I am still hoping, it maybe Monday, it maybe Tuesday, even Wednesday, after that I dont know, do I give up then ?

You need to stop turning now if not a few days ago! Do not open the incubator the sudden changes in temperature and humidity at this stage are no good. Good luck :)

Some of mine under a broody took 24 days so it is a game of patience.

Well, there has been no action in there today,
I had to open up the incubator to top up the water, humidity is steady at 80%, but nothing no peeps, no cracks,
I havent moved the eggs
I dont think its looking good, maybe this time of the year isnt so good for hatching eggs, but the room has been pretty warmish, and the incubator has been stable >:(

fertility is lower this time of year, also did you rest the eggs for at least 24 hours before setting them in the incubator?
Staffies are softer than you think.

When you checked the fertility last time?
Why you set up %80 humidity?i am asking because i thought it should be %65.
Dont give up.give them a bit more chance

Because that is what I found on the web, its supposed to help the chicks get out of the shell

I'll give it till the wekend, then consigne them to dustbin heaven, as much as I hate to do it andf give up

Where did you get your eggs fom? We had rubbish fert rate with eBay eggs before with only 1 out of 6 hatching.
If you look for my thread called eggs in incubator there is lots of advise on humidity etc as my incubator broke! I remember it being 65% humidity as well

Don't give up though, maybe try again in spring with eggs from a local farm?
Gained an allotment on the 19th June 08, 135ft by 40ft! eekk. Finally after 4 years it is looking like an allotment and not a jungle

We have 5 lovely hens in the garden, fish, 2 dogs and 2 canaries

I got the eggs from here

They have got pretty good feedback, that's why I bought them, I was hoping to have chicks for the grand kids at Christmas (but the feedback is just about how well and fast they were delivered

Oh, well, there is a place that might have chicks in January
