I've just moved into a new house and today was the first day I've really looked at the garden lol!

Under a load of stringy weedy stuff in one corner (can you tell I've not gardened before!   ) I found these....

I've no idea what it is but I didn't want to go mad tearing everything up to find out its a good thing! They do look like proper plants and I was hoping someone will know what.  8)
Attempting to grow things in my garden for the first time ever!

Looking at the base of the stems, I wonder whether it's something growing from a bulb - in which case it's less likely to be a weed.

Does it look as though it's already flowered earlier in spring?  If it hasn't, and no-one else knows for sure what it might be, try leaving it for a season to see whether any flowers are produced.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Definately day lillies, I have orange ones in my garden. Lovely but do spread very easily.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Thanks for the replies.  :D

So real flowers then, wow! I've no idea whether they look as though they've flowered or not I'm afraid but they were totally covered by the weeds. I'm not sure I want them as I was hoping to use that corner for my little veg project (gets the most sun) but I don't want to be upsetting flowers in a garden that is mainly weed and broken house bricks!

Is there anyway I could move a couple without killing them?

Also they will grow just about anywhere, as long as they get a bit of sun, sorted. 8)

Edible, too.

I haven't tried any bits, so don't know how tasty, but apparently most parts are edible.

You didn't like the shoots then, Aunty?  A bloke, whose writing I read a little while ago was raving on about the young shoots...

You mean the flowers are edible?  Raw as in a salad?

Just found this article.

http://www.newhopegardens.com/purpose.htm

We have a lot of the orange ones in our garden. Lots of foliage but beautiful, bright flowers when they open.

Not eaten any yet though.
