well if you dont have cockerals u can always buy in some fertile eggs from friends or adverts locally ,if you know someone who has birds you can swap trade veggies for half dozen .there is no viable way to keep cockerals for breeding if you dont want to keep them and not ither eat them or pass them on to someone else ,dumping them is not an option ,hope that helps  :)

Yes I was going to ask that same question teresac.
One of our girls has gone broody and we were wondering about getting some eggs for her off ebay but then what would we do with the male chicks as we live in a built up area and don't want an asbo :!: Is it a good idea to get rarer breeds because then people are likely to want to buy them? What do other people do with male chicks :?:  :?

speak nicely to a farmer who may take them, or take them to market.  I sell all mine at a local farmers market.  Only get pennies but better than necking them for nothing because I don't eat them.

alternatively, depending on number hatched, sell cocks in a trio with two hens.  I've bought them in the past this way.

Monty,

Which farmers market do you sell them at?  I am near to you and up until now have had to kill the males at 3-4 months when they start crowing.

Can anyone just go and sell at the market???  please advise.

I have put 15 eggs to incubate last night (mostly araucana, with some barnevelder and sussex) and I really do not want to kill the males - I would rather give them away.
Starting from scratch............
