Sticky traps for flea beetles on brassicas.
« on: August 09, 2009, 15:58 »
Has anyone tried sticky traps to catch flea beetles. What is the best colour? What do you use as sticky?

Even my large brassica plants are struggling to cope with large numbers of flea beetles. I have tried both Ultimate bug killer and Bug Clear but they enjoy them both. I do not want to apply Derris. (I know it is still legal to use until October, surprisingly it is still for sale in more than one local garden centre. )

Aswell as hanging strips one article I read said cover three quarters of a sheet of card with grease and then brush the ungreased part along the top of the plants so that the beetles jump up and stick on the greased part. Sound feasable. Does it work?

I hope you get a few answers to this problem, as the little devils have ruined my pak choi and perforated the turnip tops!

Do these start off in a maggot form ?

Just back from the lotty and 3 of my cabbages where leaned over, i thought the stems looked a bit stringy so i earthed up, but one snapped and there where maggots in the root  :(

What is the best soloution to this i have 40 cabages and collies coming soon for winter growing (bought in   )
