Strawberries yellowing
« on: May 12, 2007, 21:49 »
Hi, My strawberies are setting fruit, some are turning red already. A few days ago we put straw around them but today the leaves were turning yellow, they looked healthy before the straw went down.

I have thinned the straw out a bit, but I wonder what has gone wrong? Is it the straw and what should I do?

hi peanut. Don't think the straw has anything to do with it. It's more likely that there is a deficiency of some sort of trace element. If you give them a feed with something like Miraclegro you should be all right - with setting fruit there is normally more demand for nutrients. The other possibility is that you have got a virus but this will probably be insect borne and may or may not have had anything to do with the straw you laid. Any chance of a picture of a one of the plants?

Could be the same as this : http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=4754

I guess it is possible that it is a herbicide residual in the straw but it isn't very likely.
