« on: September 02, 2013, 09:24 »
Can someone tell me about these tomatoes please.  I was given the plants by a friend who was olso given them by a friend and neither of us have a clue what variety they are.....we are olso wondering if they are going to ripen this side of Chris***s ?......they are planted outside.........maybe they are indoor variety.
Not got a clue really but I am confident that someone on the forum will come up with the answer.

It could be Tigerella. They will ripen as they are an outdoor variety. They are quite happy indoors too

I had a branch of mine snap off and I took the branch, complete with all its toms, and hung it upside down in the greenhouse (it could as easily be the house) and the toms began to ripen straight away. I only harvest what I need and it's still going well.  The leaves have frazzled a bit but the remaining toms are doing well.  If yours are still not ripening when we get frost you will have to grub up the plants then and do the hanging upside down thing.
However, we are scheduled for warm weather so be patient. Have you tried hanging banana skins on them?

I'm sure there's a green stripy variety on Real Seeds, although I have no authority to advise!

Oh yes, good thinking!  It could be a Green Zebra or the like

You'll have to try one  :)

They look like Green Zebra, if they are - they won't go red - just yellowy-greeny-stripey  :D

check as the colour starts to change and they feel a bit softer - then they're probably over-ripe- but at least you'll know when to pick the next ones  :D

My green zebras are showing no sign of turning yet either - give them a bit more time, it is supposed to be lovely and warm this week.

I've got the red zebra from real seeds. A new red version of green zebra - obviously.  And they are only just reddening up. Way after most other varieties. They do look like they are one or the other.

There are many green and red striped varieties.

I doubt you can name them just by looking at them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They do look a bit like my tigerella Mr Mole, but if they ripen greeny/yellow, the variety I had once was yellow derby striped.

To add to that statement, I have some striped stuffers (they are hollow like peppers so can be stuffed) that look like that
