Sorry if sprout isn't the right word, I planted seeds about 3 weeks ago and nothing at all yet - not 1 tiny little shoot!   Every other seed I've planted has started.

Germination time for onion seed is about 3 weeks, so don't give up yet.

However, you're rather late, seeds are usually sown (outdoors), Feb-Mar, January inside. I doubt if you'd get much of a crop off them.

Im sure it said on the packet its ok to plant - will triple check tomorrow - packets outside and its too wet and muddy to go out there right now!

Are they proper onions or salad onions mrsR?  My book says salad onions okay up to june, but not proper onions.  Still, you never know, you may get a lovely crop.  Never say die!!!!

Salad onions will be the small ones you find hanging about in bunches in Tesco's tied up with an elastic band. They may be insulted to find they are not termed a 'proper onion'!

OK, OK, so I truly apologise to all salad onions, for not calling them 'proper' onions.

You know what I meant DD, salad onions, the small skinny ones that you have with your salad, as opposed to the big onions, whether they be white or red or yellow or any other colour, that you have to cut up because they are bigger and use in your cooking.  And yes, I know you can cook salad onions too!

I've got some of the round ones too MrsR.  They are Paris silverskin onions, because I want to pickle them!!!!!  And put them in my piccallilli!!
